Efficient Industrial Washing Machines

The following water efficient industrial washing machines may qualify for the ECA:

· Efficient continuous batch washers (CBWs) or washer tunnels
To be eligible for inclusion on the Water Technology List the equipment must meet the following definition:

Efficient continuous batch washers (CBWs) or washer tunnels must be programmable to use a specific amount of water depending on the soiling of the material to be washed.  The washer tunnel must also have an integral water recycling system and the maximum water consumption must not exceed 8 litres per kg of wash load in accordance with the test method set out in BS ISO 9398-3:2003 part 3, section 6.

· Efficient washer extractors
To be eligible for inclusion on the Water Technology List the equipment must meet the following definition:

Efficient washer extractors must be equipped with load cells that weigh each batch of work and automatically adjust the water level and dosage of detergent/chemicals to that weight.  The washer extractor must also have an integral water recycling system to allow the water used at the final wash to be used at the pre-wash stage of a new batch.  The maximum water consumption must also not exceed 15 litres per kg of wash load in accordance with the test method set out in BS ISO 9398-3:2003 part 4, section 7.

Manufacturers should apply to Defra with evidence that their products meet these criteria in order to appear on the Water Technology List.
